Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how the BookDNA mobile app (“BookDNA”, “we”, “us”), developed by Mohan Krishna G R, collects, uses, and protects your information. By using BookDNA you agree to this policy.
Who this applies to
BookDNA is a personal reading-tracker app. You can use the core features offline as a guest. Some features — cloud sync, AI insights, and social challenges — require an account.
Information we collect
- Account information — when you create an account or sign in (email/password or Google Sign-In): your email address, display name, and an account identifier.
- Your content — the data you add in the app: your book library, reading sessions, notes, lends, reading goals, and messages you send to the in-app AI assistant. This is stored on your device and, when you are signed in, synced to our backend so you can access it across devices.
- Usage & analytics — anonymous, aggregated events about how the app is used (e.g. screens viewed, a book added) to improve the product.
- Diagnostics — crash reports and performance diagnostics if the app encounters an error.
- Device identifiers — a push-notification token and app-instance identifier used to deliver notifications and attribute analytics.
BookDNA does not collect your precise location, contacts, photos, audio, files, or financial account details. Purchases (if any) are processed by Google Play; we do not receive your payment details.
How we use your information
- To provide the app's features — storing your library, syncing across devices, and generating reading insights.
- To power AI features (chat and shelf analysis) by sending the relevant parts of your library to our AI provider to generate a response.
- To send reminders and re-engagement notifications you have enabled.
- To understand usage and fix crashes so we can improve BookDNA.
- To manage your account and keep the service secure.
Service providers we use
We share data only with service providers that process it on our behalf to run the app. We do not sell your data.
- Supabase — authentication and cloud database/storage for your account and synced content.
- Google Firebase — Analytics, Crashlytics (crash reporting), and Cloud Messaging (push notifications).
- Google (Gemini API) — processes the library context and your prompt to generate AI chat and analysis responses.
- Google Sign-In — optional sign-in.
- Google Books / Open Library — book metadata lookups by ISBN (no personal data is sent — only the book identifier).
Data retention & deletion
We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time — see Delete your account. Local data on your device is removed when you sign out.
Security
All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Cloud data is protected with per-user access controls so that only you can read your own records.
Children
BookDNA is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Your rights
You may access, correct, or delete your personal data. To exercise these rights, use the in-app controls or contact us at the address below. We honour applicable data-protection rights, including under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act and the GDPR where relevant.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above.
